Sydney & Wollongong Fishing Report

Striped marlin and dolphinfish have been the main focus offshore over the last two weeks with plenty of each being caught. The FADs have been generating some excitement, on Monday the water was 25.5ºC out there and there were plenty of fish around.

Rod and Nick have been getting stuck into the dollies, landing a couple of crackers. Live baits are doing well when trolled at a slow walking pace, or when dropped up current from the FAD and left to swim down deep past the FAD.

Ben Wilson got stuck into the striped marlin on board the boat ‘Warlord’ last weekend fishing in the Botany Bay Game Fishing Club’s 2020 Bill Heyward Memorial Tournament. Mike Bonnici and the team also fished the comp and managed a nice striped to land them with runner up tag and release and champion female.

Reports of black marlin hugging the shoreline on their way down the coast, they should be in our area very soon!

Sydney harbour has been fishing well for kingfish over the last week or so with a few local young guns catching and releasing a huge amount of fish. Roman, Myles, Xavier and Oscar all landed plenty on a mix of bait, soft plastics and lures. All have been casting under moored boats.

Kingfish are prominent in the Port Hacking River, bait and lures working a treat. John managed 4 late last week.

Tailor are being caught off Wollongong’s northern beaches. The Jackson Gallop Swimmer was thrown out with success recently rigged with assist hooks. It was worked off the bottom by lifting it up about a metre and then letting it drop back down all while retrieving at a constant medium pace.

Kai Moylan has been fishing for squid yet again with plenty of luck using his light gear outfit and a Yamashita Squid Jig.

Here’s Jonathon rocking his Tackle World Bream Shirt with a nice whiting he caught off Bellambi beach recently.

The Bottom Magic in the new PDZ colour rigged with assist hooks has been working wonders lately, landing 15 nice fish in two sessions down the coast. Bream, flathead, whiting, tailor and flounder all had a bite of it!
