Sydney & Wollongong Fishing Report

Sorry we haven’t had a fishing report out in a while, it’s been busy to say the least! Here’s the report mostly from this week, with a couple of things mentioned from the past couple of weeks.

The last few days have seen a fair few black marlin being caught, the first good catches of them now that the weather has cleared up. At least four boats we know of today are out and doing well on them.

Small to medium sized striped marlin are being caught from Stanwell Park to Jervis Bay around the 60-90 fathom mark.

Some real big dolphinfish are being caught out at the FADs with both spearos and fishos getting their hands on them. Kurt Kiggins took his brother and girlfriend out and they managed 3 fish altogether, one being this big colourful bull, all were caught on live baits.

Sydney Heads are producing some really nice sized kingfish, plus there are plenty being caught along the coast heading south.

Inside is fishing well for kings lately too, Jackson Sweet managed a nice fish a few days before Christmas and Roman & Miles scored a couple a few days after, plus we’ve had multiple reports since.

Kai Moylan scored a nice feed of squid a couple of days ago fishing in Botany Bay with his light gear setup.

We’ve had quite a few reports of jewfish being caught in Botany Bay at the moment over near the runways on baits at the change of tide.

Dusky flathead in both Botany Bay and the Port Hacking are taking bait and lures at the moment.

John and Nick fished the Port Hacking River for a nice mixed bag a few days ago. Nick landed a few nice bream on the Jackson Athlete 7SP Lure, casting past the moored boat or pontoon and then slow winding until the lure is alongside the structure, pausing, twitching, and then slow winding it back in, letting the bream do the rest! John managed a king on his 4lb bream gear plus a nice 64cm flathead on the Bottom Magic Lure rigged with assist hooks off the rear tow point.

Bonito have shown up around both Hill 60 and Bass Point in the last few days, great fun on light gear. Get your hands on a Pin Tail 38g Lure if you’re chasing them, they work a treat!

Zac Forst managed to spear a couple of nice Bonito a couple of days ago.

Port Harbour has been fishing well for kings the last couple of weeks, most fish are rats but occasionally a school of bigger fish will swim through.

Joel and Jake Oliver have had some great kings caught over the last couple of weeks.

Josh Chapple is pictured with a nice local red caught recently on a plastic.

Reports of whiting being caught off Illawarra beaches in numbers.

Good sized flathead are being caught west of the Windang bridge in Lake Illawarra on both soft plastics and live poddy mullet in numbers too.
