Sydney & Wollongong Fishing Report

Botany Bay had a lot of red algae on Saturday which made for tough going but there were still some nice Bream and Flathead being caught on the run out tide once the algae cleared.

There were a few nice squid also caught in Botany Bay, the Bottom Magic Lure did the trick.

A customer came into the Taren point store on Friday with a photo of a nice Wahoo he trolled up in 70fa off Botany Bay last week, the warm water is certainly here.

There was also a Bream comp held over the weekend in the Bay with over 200 fish caught and released to fight another day, so they’re around!

John fished with his mate Peter in Botany Bay on Sunday for a nice catch of Kingfish and Bream. They both managed a Kingfish each, Peter caught his using a popper and John down below with a Bottom Magic Lure.

John used the Bottom Magic Saltwater Lures in all three sizes and the standard Bottom Magic all in the same colour on Thursday morning before work. The aim was to see how the different sizes performed. 5 legal bream, 1 Fan-belly Leather Jacket and a 60+cm king all in a period of 1½ hr. He said all lures caught fish with ease and the biggest fish (Kingfish) took the biggest lure.

Drummer are around at the moment, the above two thumpers were caught off the rocks of Wollongong’s northern beaches on the run in tide using bait alongside two Jackson Tiny Squid Soft Plastics (two hooks). This technique creates competition around your bait, which clearly attracts the bigger fish as it worked here and plenty of times in the past with other plastics like the Koro Craw.

Mitch fished the Minnamurra River over the weekend and was able to land some nice Flathead leading up to high tide on the flats using both the Jackson Athlete 55SFH in colour CCA and Artist FR80 in colour GSU.

Some Spearos were diving off the Minnamurra Reef over the weekend and spotted a very nice 90+kg Black Marlin that got spooked and swam off.

Gary Elliot fished out of his kayak in Minnamurra recently for a couple of nice Flathead; the Bottom Magic Lure in colour GAL did the damage!

Both Black & Striped Marlin have been caught wide off the Banks

Jervis Bay saw some nice Black Marlin being caught inside the heads, with one tinny having a double hook up on 100kg+ fish.
