Sydney & Wollongong Fishing Report

Brook and Fergo fished early Tuesday morning in Botany Bay for a nice catch of Flathead. They used a new technique where the front hooks of the lure were replaced with assist hooks, which worked an absolute treat! The hooks give an extra bit of attraction while also not allowing the fish to lever the hooks out once hooked up, perfect for Flathead with their head shaking. The Artist FR80 in colour GSU landed a nice big lizard in the shallows, the Bottom Magic in colour YIK snagged one well before the sun came up, and the Nyoro Nyoro 85 in colour BCH worked for Brook around the weed beds.

The St. George and Sutherland Shire Anglers club had their Bream comp over the weekend. Multiple members weighed in bags of 10 Bream with the heaviest over 7kg. Glen Daniels also got the heaviest individual bream at 1.15kg. Jewfish, Whiting, Flathead and Tailor caught by the members.

Bass are also being caught at the Brackish end of Woronora River on lures.

Mitch and Fergo fished midday Wednesday off the rocks at Kiama for a good catch of Salmon and Kingfish. The Muscle Shot 90 in colour CKS and the Pin Tail Tune 40 in colour CIN did their jobs well with the Salmon, and the Athlete 9JM in colour PPG and CGY nailed a couple of nice Kings for Mitch. The Bottom Magic Saltwater 75mm in colour ALB landed a nice Trevally too! All lures were rigged with assist hooks on the front and nothing on the back, a new and really effective technique.

Amanda Lamond tagged a nice Striped Marlin over the weekend, a great start to her birthday!

There are still plenty of Flathead in the channel throughout Lake Illawarra with most being taken on Soft Plastics at night.

Whiting are hitting surface poppers over the sand flats behind the caravan park at Windang.

Kingfish are still hanging about around Port Harbour in amongst the Frigate Mackerel.

Saturday fished well off the rocks at Kiama with plenty of pelagics caught all around. Mitch did well fishing with lures for Bonito and Mac Tuna, the Pin Tail Tune 40 and the Athlete 12SSP in colour FSM landed the Bonnies and the Athlete 9JM in colour PPG was taken by the Mac Tuna. There were also around 20 Bonnies caught on coconut rigs and a nice legal Kingfish caught on a Pilchard.
