This light fishing package is suited perfectly for any light and general estuary fishing conditions, meaning it's perfect when chasing species like bream, flathead, whiting, blackfish and many other typical estuary species. It's a relatively good quality set up that won't send you broke by any means.
Both the rod and reel are highly suited for this type of fishing, they were made for it. The line (that's pre-spooled by us using our spooling machine) is the perfect all-rounder breaking strain, at 10lb you can fish for basically any typical estuary fish without issues. The 8lb leader is also great for just about any species, it's thin and light enough to chase bream and whiting, and strong enough for bigger or faster fish like flathead or salmon.
This rod is a great all-rounder when it comes to fishing light in both fresh or saltwater estuaries. It's nice and long so allows for a good cast especially when using smaller and lighter lures or baits. It's lightweight and thin so the sensitivity is nice and high allowing you to feel what's going on down the business end at all times. It's built with quality graphite and good quality componentry so it should be able to fight and land those target fish time and time again!
The re-launched Catana range of reels have had their gears changed, allowing a high retrieve ratio due to the new zinc DC gears. The 2500HG is perfect for freshwater and estuary applications. The AR-C spool lip design increases casting distance, controls the development of wind knots, and creates less slap on the stripping guide. They come with two SUS ball bearings, plus one roller bearing, so it's smooth sailing all the way with these value packed reels.
The line spooled onto the reel is Dog Tooth Fluidcast XT8 Carrier Braid 150m 10lb. It's a quality 8 carrier braid that comes in hi-vis yellow. It's relatively thin and very user-friendly, making it perfect for this package.
Dog Tooth Fluorocarbon Leader 8lb is what's used in this package and with good reason, it's high quality and made for this type of fishing. Being fluorocarbon, it dissappears when it hits the water and can be made quite thin because of the fluorobarbon material and it's high strength to size ratio.
