Sydney & Wollongong Fishing Report

Mike Bonnici got stuck into the Sydney reds on Sunday morning.

John took Jillian out Sunday morning for a great little session. Jillian landed her first ever jewfish which went 101cm on 6lb line, followed by a couple of kingfish. A few casts later John followed suit and landed this nice 85cm flathead.

Both kingfish & tailor have been caught off the runways in Botany Bay over the last week with both stick baits and the Slug-Go 6″ Soft Plastic Col Mackerel getting the job done.

Some big bream are swimming around the entrance to Woolooware Bay, one customer scoring a 5kg bag in single session.

The Port Hacking River has been fishing well for both bream and whiting up on the flats on the incoming tides. Both poppers and small soft plastics working well.

Plenty of blackfish are being caught near the oil wharf in Botany Bay, just keep in mind there are exclusion zones in place here.

Jackson Sweet with a solid salmon that took him for a good ride on Saturday morning. He was fishing the Hacking River on the incoming tide and trying to match the hatch as the salmon were feeding on small baitfish, and the Bassday Sugapen 70mm (4.3g) was the closest he had. He used a classic walk-the-dog action by flicking the rod tip on a constant retrieve to make the lure dart from side to side.

Good numbers of kingfish are being caught along the coastline of the Royal National Park.

Kingfish and bonito are around the Wollongong and Shellharbour area at the moment, the kings being caught are long fish but they’re pretty skinny.

A lot of samsonfish are being caught off Bass Point, one customer actually said they were annoying after a while because there were too many. They were all in the 1-5kg range.

The fishing in the estuaries down south is starting to heat up due to the warmer waters we’re seeing. Huw is pictured with another nice 90+cm lizard caught off the surface, and how’s the mullet it spat when he pulled it up!

Early season bass are being caught in creeks and streams more regularly now. Josh Robbins fished earlier this week in a new spot and managed three little fish, all of which took the Jackson Pygmy Crank.

St Georges Basin has seen more jewfish and quality flathead being caught lately.

The Shoalhaven River has been fishing well for blackfish, weed flies and fresh weed are getting the bite. Further up the river in the fresh water, estuary perch and bass are hitting blades, small plastics rigged weedless and also small profile crankbaits.
