Sydney & Wollongong Fishing Report 10/10/20

  • 3 min read

We’re back with fishing reports! It’s been a long time coming trying to get the new website up and running, but now that it’s ready we’ll be onto the reports, making sure you hear what we do about local catches and spots that are fishing well at the time.

If you have info from a recent sesh, hit us up on Facebook, Instagram, through the website ‘contact us’ section, or come see us in-store and we’ll chuck up whatever info you’re willing to give us (none of your secret spots though). P.S. we love photos, send them through or tag us on Instagram @_fergostackleworld_ to be featured!

Jackson (@jackson_sweet_fishing) pulled a nice 68cm king from the Hacking river on a big 9” pre-rigged Slug-Go soft plastic in the albino shad colour. He casted the unweighted Slug-Go across the channel and retrieved it with a big sweep and pause action (wind in your slack line on the pause). He also managed this nice 54cm salmon about a week ago off the surface with a small Bassday Sugapen lure.

Reports of other kingfish up to 80cm caught in the Hacking on both baits and lures too.

Sydney harbour has been fishing well for kingfish of late. Myles (@mylesfishing) managed a cracking 85cm king out of his kayak about a week ago.

Oscar (@oscarfishingsyd) also landed himself a nice king in the harbour on live squid.

Jacob (@jacobsfishing_) managed two nice fish in the harbour as well at the start of the month.

Freddie (@freddie_fish6) scored himself a nice little king from the stones using a small slow pitch jig.

Justin (@kingtidefishing) with a couple of kings caught just yesterday.

John (@fishingwithjt) with a nice trevally he caught on the famous Bottom Magic Lure in colour ALB rigged with assist hooks off the back eyelet. He caught this in the Hacking before work yesterday along with a little whiting caught on a Bassday Sugapen lure.

This huge albacore was caught around the 12 mile off Botany Bay a few days ago while the boys were heading back in from trolling out wide. They got the call from mates saying there were yellowfin swimming around so thought they'd try their luck and within two minutes they were on!

This yellowfin tuna was caught about 15 minutes before the albacore was landed in the same spot.

Big schools of Salmon have been seen recently swimming around Bate Bay, Cronulla.

Some really good whiting have been coming within 3m of the shore at Cronulla on the run-in tide.

Lake Conjola is firing in the warmer weather, a great start to the summer ahead. The Artist FR70 (the new smaller Artist FR size) in colour WDS was working absolute wonders down there. 5 species in a couple of short sessions including bream, flathead, blackfish, trevally and tailor, plenty of fish caught in total and among them a very nice 84cm flathead. It works in the shallows and sinks into the deeper water as well, something you simply can’t do with your typical floating or suspending bibbed lures. All fish were caught in 60cm-6m of water by hugging the bottom. The action is lifting 50-80cm off the bottom while either slowly retrieving or drifting, that’s all that’s needed, the lure does the rest!

Note: you can see the brilliant purplish colour that comes out when the lure is in the water and under direct sunlight, something the images online don't pick up. This is still the same lure (colour WDS) in every shot.

James (@huddo_96) dove off Minnumurra with a mate for this nice bag of goodies over the long weekend.

Reports of big flathead being caught in St Georges Basin lately, great signs for the summer to come down there.

A few customers have been in talking about their snapper caught off Bellambi and Wollongong up and around the 4-5kg mark, one bloke getting them on the Gulp Nemesis 6.5” soft plastics.

These aren’t local fish but worth noting that the new Bait Junkie 7” Jerk Shads in colour baby bass worked a treat on the reds for Andrew on his trip away in northern NSW. The other plastic that worked well for him was the new Berkley Powerbait 8” Jerkshad in colour bleak. He also managed a nice kingfish using the new Berkley Kachi Kachi Dama kabura jigs in colour green/gold.
